Stone Carving in India

Gorara and palewa, two types of soapstone, are extracted from a nearby quarry. Stone pieces are then refined, using some electric tools and some hand tools. The workplace has an air suction filter that removes dust created from the carving. The near-finshed pieces are inlayed by hand with material such as mother of pearl. These artisans are capable of extremely detailed work, as the finished pieces show.
